This image was taken in the spring of 2006. This pair of nesting Great Blue Herons would on occasion go through a courting ritual when the male returned with food. None of the other Herons in the Rookery did this. I waited for about five hours for this shot. As he landed they both puffed out their feathers and the male strutted for a bit out on the limb. The female is looking directly at the camera with a look that says "not tonight dear, I have a headache"...or as one lady said, "not in front of the children, dear."
